Drug Addiction

Drug Addiction: The Way Back From a Journey Down the Wrong Pathdrug addiction help for Christians

Drug addiction can be a difficult  road to walk. It not only affects the addict but also family and friends. Very few people set out to become  addicted to drugs or alcohol.  The first time someone makes the decisions to use a substance recreationally, they have already started down the wrong path. Most people who have become addicted, thought that they could control the drug and keep the use to a recreational level of intake, on the weekend or once a month. Thinking that you know when to stop or thinking that you can handle getting high a few times,  leads to dependency and addiction.

As a person starts to use drugs for recreation, the times between usage becomes less and this is where the problem starts to show itself. Thinking that we can cut down or just do it once in a while is a trap that Satan has laid out for us and does trap many Christians. Often times addiction is something that we do not see coming as it can start from trusted physicians prescribing medications to help us deal with pain, depression,or anxiety.
Building up a tolerance to prescription medications can and will lead to more of the same drug, or stronger drugs having to be prescribed to get the desired effect. This leads to dependency and the need to continue taking the drugs in order to get through the day without pain.

Don’t Let Satan Gain a Foothold
When a Christian becomes addicted to drugs, Satan has a way in, we open the door to our heart and mind and give him permission to set up shop in our being.
He is the great justifier, Satan works on our mind to lead us out of the light and into the depths where he has the power.

1 peter 5:8-9
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

Do Not Let Satan Take Control
He will get inside your thoughts and whisper all kinds of hurtful things just to keep a stronghold on you. You may begin to think these things.
*No one will understand and think you are weak
*Friends and family will never trust you again
*Your significant other wife or husband will want a divorce
*You will loose your family, friends, and be kicked out of your church.
*No one will understand.
And the worst thing that can happen is you blame God for not loving you and allowing you to become addicted.
If you are like the many Christians that have become addicted, you find yourself asking why could this have happened to either you or a loved one. God does not promise that your life will be easy. In fact, Christ offers solutions to the obstacles in our path, we just have to listen. He does not create drug or alcohol addiction. This is a choice, either conscious or unconscious. He gave us the ability to make our own decisions and the freedom to make mistakes. Addiction can be a direct result of choices that we have made in the past.
  Ephesians 6:11-17
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. …
The Road from addiction to to sobriety can be a long narrow path. It is the path less traveled and full of trials and tribulations. This road is not without reward and happiness, it is only through the most difficult trials do we get the most rewards.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-11
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: 10 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
